I love using sponges for application as it gives me the best base I can possible have especially when my skin is rebelling against me. Brushes can be rough and shed like crazy which can be a hassle during application so I tend to stick to sponges or even finish off with a sponge to create a smooth canvas.But not all sponges are equal. Some are are expensive and some are very afforable. Some perform wonderfully and some are just not even worth the effort. My favorite sponges were the beauty blender, the lightbulb sponge from Shu Uemura, the sponge from Mikimoto cosmetics, and the ruby cell air puff sponges particularly from the Sulwhasoo and Hera cushions. All of those listed above are expensive and some in particular require lots of cleaning which can get tiresome. The beauty blender and the lightbulb sponge takes awhile to clean thoroughly-- my skin is sensitive and highly reactive so I can't really chance my sponges being dirty. Also they can be EXPENSIVE.In comes the Beauty Junkees blender teardrop sponges. I love that it is black in color and very easy to clean and maintain that crisp color even after so many uses--I have been using it everyday for the past few weeks since I got it. It is easy to hold and soft but it still has a firmness to it so it won't fall apart or get punctured by my nails is I grip it a little firmly especially when I use it dry.Also it is not so firm that I feel like I'm hitting myself with it but not too soft that it just absorbs the product and leaves no coverage like some other sponges I have used. It is easy to hold and leaves a smooth canvas as sponges should be doing. I see no texture left over like some other--cheap and high end--sponges do like the marshmallow sponge when used either wet or dry.It is latex free and has no funky scent to it and works well with cream and liquid. I don't use sponges for powder in general so I didn't test that part out. But it so good with blending my concealer out particularly around the thin skin around my eyes. I saw no creasing and no patchiness. Blending out cream contour is also a breeze and even products that usually looked terrible on my skin looked so beautiful that I wanted to cry except I didn't want to ruin my makeup--I worked hard to make sure my eyeliner was crisp and clean- no way was I ruining that!And the best part....... I got 4 for $12! That is insane! Especially since my favorites sponges aren't anywhere NEAR that price point. And these sponges perform just as well as my favorite and more expensive sponges. I saw no difference in the application and the look of my makeup when I compared all of them to the Beauty Junkees sponge. Awesome sponge for an equally awesome price! I have tried the original Beauty Blender, the Real Techniques Sponge, the Beauty Junkees sampler sponge set, and some various off brand sponges from Target, Ebay, etc. A lot of the time, I'd notice that the cheaper sponges would be really dense even when you dampen them. This was also the case with half of the Beauty Junkees sampler set. The pink tear drop and the oddly shaped blue one were very dense, which made it hard to blend foundation and concealer. The purple pear and the green spade (I see now that they changed it to a football shape) were less dense, but still more dense than the Beauty Blender and the Real Techniques sponge. I relied on the purple pear for foundation and the green spade for concealer. It got the job done, but I was really intrigued when Beauty Junkees came out with the "pro" teardrop shaped ones. I wouldn't have to rely on two sponges for my routine, which would be pretty rad. So far, I'm impressed.Both the Beauty Blender and the Real Techniques sponges have that porous spongy texture. They retain less water than the cheaper sponges, so they blend foundation and concealer more easily. These black Beauty Junkees sponges parted ways with the memory foam texture that the OG ones have, so now they mimic the porous texture of the real Beauty Blender and Real Techniques sponges. Also, these are the same size as the standard pink Beauty Blender. Blending foundation and concealer is a dream with this sponge! I'm definitely one to invest in good makeup and tools, so I am blown away that these are going for 4/$12. The real Beauty Blender is a fantastic tool, don't get me wrong. Everyone knows that one comes at a hefty price tag, and if I can save money finding something just as good, why not? The Real Techniques is great too, but I've always had quality issues with these; they would always rip within a short amount of time even though my nails are kept really short. So far, I've noticed no ripping with these sponges. I will update this review again shortly!This beauty blender lives up to the hype!!! I personally don’t always use it because sometimes I like to use a brush to apply liquids. But it is a very helpful sponge. I love my real techniques sponge and find that they both work pretty much the same producing the same result. However I do reach for my beauty blender more, probably because it has a more precise tip than the real techniques. But when I travel I reach for my real techniques one and never bring my bb. In general when I travel I take the cheaper option so I don’t feel bad when it gets lost or damaged. Overall this beauty blender is a wonderful tool to have. I strongly recommend washing properly after every single use.. it’s a sponge and sponges harbor bacteria and germs. I’ve used shampoo and it works but definitely requires elbow grease.
